ASL will fade away?

video

I do not believe ASL will fade away; however, there is a trend that shows hearing students taking up ASL 1-4 at many community colleges and universities across America.

A huge growth on Video Relay Service (VRS) usage and Video Phone (VP)

ASL is in fact growing each day and year.

Long Live ASL!

Very good well thought statement! Didn't know that there are over 400% growth in ASL classes all over United States. I've taught my boss sign language for a year and when I introduced her to the deaf events, she asked me to teach her ASL and to be straightforward in ASL. She is VERY good in ASL for a beginner, I predict that she will be fluent in ASL within another year. She views ASL as more of "artistic" and communicative than any language. She is very fluent in Yiddish and some Hebrew and, so far, she finds ASL very attractive.

Indeed, ASL is a magnet, it continuously add attention everywhere!

Nesmuth: One advice from me --

"It is wise to study the ways of one's adversary."

Hello Stephen!
It's sooo good to see you again! I was wondering where you have been.

Amen! I have been to some places and I see more people using a little sign language.

The first comment I sent seems not to be working, so I am trying to do the second comment.
So, I did the ASL poetry about the Deaf children being implanted. Check my V-blog, Wavingwithmydeafhands.blogspot.com

I have 2 great books called the art of war and leadership is an art. Perhaps someone here needs to read and learn something from them.

Goldie: It is so good to hear from you!

Deb Ann: Yes, I visited your site and asked you to do an ASL on your poems/poetry. You are awesome!

Nessy: The book Art of War really applies to business and not much to do with Deaf(ness). If you can show me an example and I am all eyes.

Hi Steve,

You made valid points about ASL. Personally, I believe ASL will NOT fade away. It is too precious to perserve our beautiful language to communicate among our community. Like George Veditz's statement in 1913 video, we must perserve our language for the future generations due to the epidemic of oralism.
Absolutely, I agreed with you about any individual's assumptions of having ASL to extinct. First thing is to research and to get more facts rather than receiving rumors or gossips around.
I understand some deaf people have impatient to communicate with hearing ASL students, who is trying to sign well. The most important is to encourage ASL students to keep and to improve their ASL skills to faciliate our communication bridges. I must admit that I have tolerance to communicate with hearing individuals despite of their sign language skills or no knowledge of ASL through writing communications.
By the way, I enjoyed watching your vlog to share our thoughts and increase my knowledge. Keep vlogging! Happy Thanksgiving and don't eat too much! Smile!

I forgot to add about ASL. ASL is like a diamond or emerald. You know what I mean. Shine will not go away from our heart and the gift provided by God including culture and language.

I agree, ASL will not fade. In fact I've read that people who use ASL can communicate better with people in other countries than those who do not. I believe that we could utilize this language and make it more widespread among the hearing community we can break communication barriers with the world.
